Did you know?
Anxiety and panic disorder can present in many ways; often with physical symptoms. In fact, many times patients are seen in the ER or by their primary care provider multiple times before a mental illness such as anxiety is finally diagnosed. Physical symptoms may include a racing heart, shortness of breath, numbness/tingling, abdominal pain, among many others.
Anxiety disorders include Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Panic Disorder, phobias
Please note: I may require you also see a therapist or psychologist when treating PTSD and phobias.
Similar to anxiety, depression manifests in multiple ways beyond the obvious depressed mood. Symptoms such as fatigue, lost motivation, sleeping too much, or simply not enjoying hobbies can all be related to clinical depression. That said, I listen carefully to every person's experience and may order diagnostic testing to ensure there are not other medical etiologies for your symptoms.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders (OCD) range widely in severity and presentation. Common obsessional thoughts relate to contamination, fear of harm, preoccupation with symmetry, or even aggressive or sexual thoughts. Compulsive acts or rituals may include frequent hand washing, counting, repeatedly checking something, praying, repeating words/gestures, hair pulling, skin picking, hoarding, and many others. These conditions often co-exist with other psychiatric disorders such as anxiety and depression, and we can talk about evidence-based therapies and medications that can be life-changing.
In addition to my services, I do require you to see a therapist or psychologist with specialization in OCD treatment.
I believe physical and mental health are best obtained through proper nutrition, sleep, physical activity, stress management, gratitude, and laughter. Though I do prescribe medications when indicated, I work with patients to maximize their health physically, emotionally, spiritually, and psychologically. Evaluating each person holistically, I recommend evidence-based interventions from both Western and Eastern medicine.
I am gender-affirming and LGBT+ friendly.
